Hello everyone! This blog is a short storytime on the main reason why I left youtube.
If you guys know me from earlier, you must know that I used to make youtube videos a few years back. I started my Youtube in September 2017 and by the end of May-2019, I had already quit youtube. So, Here’s what happened in between these 1 and a half years.
My Youtube Journey…..
I Uploaded my first video on my youtube channel in September-21, 2017 titled ‘My First Video’. It was during exam times that I filmed and uploaded that video. I made this video as a trial of an editing app and I liked how it looked. So, I uploaded it on my channel. It got a good response from my friends/relatives and they were prompting me to make more videos.
And, In between the span of 1 month and 8 days, I had already uploaded about 9-10 videos. I was very consistent with making and uploading videos as I had an about 1-month vacation going on during that time.
My friends and family were enjoying my videos and they were supporting and motivating to make more and more videos. On top of that, I enjoyed making videos too at that time.
But, as soon as the vacation was over, I was not very consistent on youtube. My high-school required me to stay at school from 10 AM to 4:45 PM. So, I was barely getting any time for my videos. Also. since it was winter, Day would get shorter and I wouldn’t have time to shoot my video after my school cause I would reach home at around 5:15 and It would already get dark then.
During Saturdays, I would get really tired but still managed to make some videos. But, editing those videos required more effort and because of my classes, I wasn’t able to fully give time to my blog. I managed to upload about 9 videos from December to March.
But, Since my 11th class final exams were happening in April, I stopped giving time to youtube and focused solely on my studies.
Then, after my exams, I was really out of the track on my Youtube channel. I had to start thinking of content all over again. Since I was not on a continuous pattern of making videos., Thinking of a single video, shooting, editing, and uploading video would drain a lot of my mental energy.
I was really struggling to create any content. I was not feeling myself while I was making videos. But, I still was making videos for the peoples who want to watch my videos. In between May-2018 to December-2018, I made about 6 videos.
Then, again my 12th exams started. And I again stopped uploading videos. But, after my exams, I uploaded my last video ‘I am Quitting Youtube’ and then quitted Youtube completely.
Why I Really Left Youtube…..
Youtube was a really good time for me when I started. I was having fun in the beginning but later, It couldn’t fit into my schedule.
Youtube was really time-consuming. I had to set up everything before I start filming, Filming certain parts of video would take time. And, for me, Editing was one hell of a hassle. To be honest, I didn’t quite enjoy editing.
Filming and Editing videos would drain a lot of my mental energy. I wasn’t able to give much time during my classes. So, I was not much consistent with uploading.
Also, I started youtube so naively that I couldn’t really get into what youtube really is and What kinds of content do people’s like.
I think the main reason I wasn’t able to do youtube is the fact that I couldn’t give my 100% on it.
Yes, it is correct. I was passionate enough to start a youtube channel but I wasn’t committed enough to consistently run my channel. And, not uploading content consistently couldn’t get me the kind of growth on my channel that I would like to see. Also, I wasn’t able to produce content on a large spectrum.
That’s why I left youtube.
The journey of Starting my Blog:
After I left youtube in May-2019, I wasn’t actively doing any work on an online platform. Then, I joined into college in November-2019 and things were just going usual. Then, I found another passion: Writing.
I was writing something for my Instagram occasionally. I enjoyed writing and just expressing my thoughts and raising my voice through my writing.
Then, I googled ‘How to make money writing on the internet?’. Yes, I literally searched that 😉. Then, I came up with something called a ‘Blog’. First, I literally thought making a blog was hard as It would require me to ‘Create a website’ which was more beyond my non-geeky mind. But then, with time, I learned about WordPress, making website and SEO which made me think that making a blogging is not as hard as it seems.
Then, I went into more detail on Starting a blog, creating a website, and uploading it to the server and everything related to the blog. While choosing my niche, I wanted to stay more practical and Fun. I didn’t want to write about a single and specific topic. I wanted my blog to be multi-niched. It took me some time to find out what I was really interested in and what would add more value to the audience who reads my blog.
But, Before lockdown, I thought I would start my blog website in September-2020 as I would have more time to completely focus on my blog during September (Vacation Time). But, since the lockdown happened, I had enough time during lockdown to open my blog. Then, I started working on my blog.
Why I started my blog?
I started my blog to connect with my audience as well as to make some monetary profit off of it. I want to stay connected with people through various online platform and Blog is one of them. If my blog could help even a single person who is having problems related to the niche I am in, it would make me happy. And, on top of that, If I would make some money out of it, it would be ‘Icing on the cake’.
Here’s how I created my blog.
Also, Blogging doesn’t require to be in front of the camera and I wouldn’t have to care about light. I could write my blog even at night and I could easily fit blogging into my schedule. Also, Blogging doesn’t require me to edit videos which is my pet peeve. I could just research a specific topic and spill my heart out which I think is not that hard compared to shooting and editing videos.
So, This is my journey from making youtube videos to writing blogs.
